Going Postal

Here's a question for you. There are eight post code areas in Wales. Can you name them?

The post code areas are as follows. Llandudno, Chester, Shrewsbury, Swansea, Llandrindod Wells, Hereford, Cardiff and Newport. That makes eight in total, named after a town in that post code area. Three of these are named after English towns. For the above graphic I have erased England in order to just show Wales. There are instances where Welsh post code areas overlap England slightly but nowhere near as much as English postal areas overlap Wales. As an example, the majority of the Shrewsbury postal area is in Wales.

This isn't just some rant about Welsh places having to use an English post code. It goes way beyond that. This is a form of colonialism.

Just as Welsh water and Welsh energy is stolen from Wales in order to support jobs and growth in England and suppress jobs and growth in Wales. Mail that is sent from one area in Wales to another area in Wales is often taken out of Wales which supports jobs in England before being returned once again to Wales.

As of 2012 there were 50 mail offices across the UK, even before privatisation the number had decreased drastically in recent years, in 2008 there were 69 mail centres. Looking at the list there are only two mail centres in Wales, Swansea and Cardiff. And the Royal Mail have announced they will close another eight in 2013/14.

How can Wales ever prosper and compete with the other nations of the world when we are locked into a system where we cannot even compete with the country next door? The Royal Mail racket is just another example in an ever growing list of ways we are exploited in order to provide jobs for England.
